This stands apart from semantics, which centers on word and sentence meaning in isolation, and morphology, which studies word formation, or pragmatics, which looks at how context influences interpretation at a micro level. By analyzing discourse moves, genres, and how messages are crafted across bigger chunks of language, learners see how meaning is created and conveyed in actual communication. That makes discourse-focused teaching the best fit for revealing meaning through a communicative framework.
